2009 was another great festival for the beginners and improvers sessions, busy as always and plenty of fun! As well as having a great time playing tunes and meeting everyone we had a chance to take on board some feedback in the hope of making things even better for those of you learning tunes and techniques, as well as those who come to lend a hand.
Firstly we're going to call the whole thing Tuneworks and will start the whole process of moving to www.tuneworks.co.uk - this may take a while. Why? Well we'd like to team up with more sessions and festivals to run sessions with tunes you already know so this is an easy way for other organisations to get involved. If you want to use the tunebooks as part of your festival or session, let us know so we can publicise it on our website. If you need someone to run a tuneworks session anywhere let us know so we can put the word around.
We will run an absolute beginners session to take you through one or two tunes - this will probably be quite short as we know it's hard work at the start. We will most likely feature whistle and fiddle though other melody instruments will be welcome! At the other end of the scale, we're hoping to run a full speed session with the tunebook just so you can have a blast with the tunes and have been toying with the idea of rehearsing up a big band to do a stage spot somewhere on the Monday - keep your ear to the ground for more details!
One of the comments from last year was can you run another session in the afternoon? You lot would just play tunes all day long if left to your own devices wouldn't you? In answer to this we will have a tuneworks volunteer at the food tent at a prearranged time each day who can either help you with tunes or set you up with some players at roughly the same level.
Last but not least we're going to keep the tunes from last year till all this stuff settles down!
Happy tootling, bowing, strumming, squeezing or whatever you do best!
