They worked with every pupil in the school and they had the opportunity to try their hands at step dancing, set dancing, song and even instrumentation over the five days.
34 children were chosen by the school to work more closely with the group, in preparation for a concert to an audience of 650 at the brand new Theatre Severn at the end of the week.
The 34 children were then split into smaller groups to work on the following elements
Song
With song and storytelling being an important part of the Scottish tradition, this formed a major part of the project.
Breabach chose a great selection of Scottish songs, that covered wide range from well known traditional pieces (‘Loch Lomond’) through to a modern classic from Karine Polwart one of Scotland’s most celebrated contemporary folk artists (‘Follow the Heron’).
The band were joined by a number musicians from the school who added guitar and fiddle to the backing for the songs.

Scottish Country Dancing / Set Dancing / Social Dancing
Breabach worked with a large group of the 30 to teach them a variety of traditional Scottish social dances.
A Scottish country dance or ‘reel’ is a form of social dance involving groups of mixed couples of dancers tracing progressive patterns according to a predetermined choreography.
When it first became popular around the 18th century, it filled the niche that is occupied today by ballroom dances such as the waltz or tango, as a fairly refined form of entertainment. Related dance forms include English country dancing and contra dancing.

Step Dancing
In the same way that the Demon Barbers worked on English clogging in year one of the project, this year Breabach worked on Scottish step dance with Radbrook.
Donal worked with a small group and taught them a varied routine that demonstrated the basics of traditional Scottish step dance – the dancers danced with Donal, before he gave a full demonstration on the art of Scottish step dance.
