Refolkus is Shrewsbury Folk Festival’s own unique Youth Festival. From its home at the Reef, we’ll be packing as many mind-blowing workshops and activities into the weekend as possible before showing off our skills on the big stage! If you’re aged 12-25 then this is the place to be over festival weekend. In 2009 we were swept up in a whirlwind of singing, dancing and playing and 2010 is set to be even more massive!
So with all of your favourites are back for another year, there’s loads more banging tunes from the all-star Refolkus Big Band, a chance to get those lungs pumping with some seriously sweet singing workshops as well as loads of toe-tapping, sword-clashing dancing.

ALL-STAR BIG BAND
Move over Miss Carthy, Mr Boden and the rest, the All-Star Big Band is where to find the new talent! Whatever and however you play, come and make some seriously sweet sounds with Matt, Lily and Maisie.
SING OUT
Fancy yourself as the next Kate Rusby or just want to raise the roof? Miriam will be teaching some fantastic harmony song from all over the world that’s guaranteed to get your lungs pumping. Everyone’s welcome to blow the cobwebs away, so come on and belt it out!
SAMBA DRUMMING
Take an explosive trip to South America and learn the fantastic funky rhythms of the Brazilian samba drums. NOT for the faint-hearted- be prepared for some noise!
STEP UP
We’re jetting across the Atlantic for some fast and furious Appalachian clogging with Sara Marshall and Fi Bradshaw from the Demon Barber Roadshow. Originating from the USA, Appalachian uses traditional European clogging together with African rhythms and the dance steps of Cherokee Indians to create a driving percussive sound.

Forget Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg; you all know by now that the hottest rapper around goes by the name of Smutt! Possibly the youngest and fastest bunch to take on this north-eastern sword dance- learn how to do the nut, the choker and the cramper, or even the toast rack... Five dancers with five swords at breakneck speed - what could possibly go wrong?!
WITHIE SCULPTURE
Got an eye for aesthetics? A flair for design? Let your imagination run wild as we create an incredible, immense sculpture from flexible willow branches. No experience required and super easy to get stuck into so come along and discover your creative spark!
Most of the workshops (apart from withie sculpture) are progressive- so make sure you don’t miss out on the chance to strut your stuff in the performances!
