John Jones

Jon Jones Right Margin-Body

John Jones very graciously accepted the festivals offer to become its patron two years ago. Since then he has taken an active interest in the festival and has offered help whenever needed.

We all see John as the charismatic leader of one of the UK’s finest folk/rock bands and his songs give a glimpse into the mind of a sensitive yet outspoken champion of the people and the countryside, voicing his anger about the inequalities brought about by political chicanery.

And then we hear the songs showing the other side of his nature; a man with a lust for life, a need to be loved and an eagerness to have a bloody good time.

We can testify that John is all of these things.

We are proud to have him as our patron.

Commenting on the 2008 Festival John says:

"It is an honour for me to be at the year's festival as both patron and performer. Last year's sold- out festival found it's natural home on a great site and established Shrewsbury as one of the major folk festivals and one that all performers want to play. Richard Thompson is a compelling performer and a superb choice as headliner and with band-of -the-moment Bellowhead, Lunasa and the exciting Duhks, the bill looks strong. Check out the Duhks, they are serious singers and players.

The strength of the festival runs deep with great local talent and with so much of the emphasis on participation in the huge variety of workshops, the festival has a wonderful inclusive feel. It means the festival can grow and still retain its character.

A rival to Cambridge? Definitely".
