We are delighted to have demonstrations of these two unique traditions from Devon that are rarely seen outside the area.
Broom dancing as the name suggests is dancing with a broom, or rather over a broom. A Dartmoor tradition, this dance is now mainly performed by children although in days gone by it would have been the ladies of the moor tucking up their long skirts to show a little bit of leg! The children will also add a little of their own flavour, as with any tradition this is what keeps it alive.
Members of the Dartmoor Pixie band are past champions of the unique Dartmoor step dance competition which takes place each year – the dancers having to perform steps on a 12 inch square board on the top of a cart.
