Welcome to Shrewsbury Folk Festival

TICKET SALES
better than ever

The take-up of festival tickets during the early bird offer has been phenomenal. This means that the remaining tickets available for sale is reduced and we feel that the festival will sell-out before the event starts on August Bank Holiday.

We do not wish to create a panic because we are sure weekend tickets will be available for several months yet. However, many of our regulars turn up on the weekend to buy their tickets and we do not want them to be disappointed. So please consider getting your tickets sooner rather than later.

Festivals are looking good for 2009, perhaps we all need to escape from the uncertainties of what promises to be a difficult year for many, and start looking forward to the things that we enjoy the most.

The dates for the next festival are:
 28 - 29 - 30 - 31 August 2009

Shrewsbury Folk Festival will have a lot to offer in 2009, most of the artists have been booked and we have a fantastic line up for you. The festival has a reputation for the diversity of its programming and this year will be no different, a chance to see your favourites and celebrate the tradition, but an opportunity to discover new artists and new music.

Our line up includes Proclaimers, Eric Bibb, The Dhol Foundation, Seth Lakeman, Show of Hands, The Chair, Spooky Men's Chorale, Patrick Street, Chris Wood and Megson.

Also watch out for artists that have never appeared in the UK before and a few who are rarely seen here. These will include the Dust Poets from Canada, Krista Detor, Mark Erelli, Ollabelle and Chris Smither from the USA and Hoven Droven from Sweden.

See our line up here

There will be no major changes to the layout of festival site this year, and very few changes to our venues, although Sabrina marquee will be larger, and our stage in the S P Holding Main Stage Marquee will be higher.

There will also be large screens on either side of the main stage, so wherever you sit (or stand) you will get a good view of our performers (we do read all of your emails and react to your comments on the feedback forms).

DogDogs

Dogs are very welcome at the festival but in a change from previous years they are NOT allowed in venues unless they are assistance dogs. We hope dog lovers will understand and respect this decision.

If your dog does not have a friendly temperament please don’t bring it.

We are preparing to give you a great holiday in Shrewsbury, on a site which caters for your every need (well most of them). If you have been before you will know we have the friendliest and most helpful stewards, 400 of them, and the happiest atmosphere imaginable. The festival attracts people of all ages and people from every possible background, whether our visitors are couples, singles or families Shrewsbury has a big welcome for everyone. There are a huge amount of activities for children and young people and an exhausting array of concerts, dances, singarounds, sessions, displays and fun for everyone.

Comments from last year:-

Once again you have created an event that has generated so much happiness for so many people. The atmosphere was fantastic - relaxed, friendly, safe, vibrant and the performances were awe-inspiring, from the headline acts in the main marquee to the sudden bursts of song around the picnic tables and in the food tent. I cannot count how many fascinating people I have met over the weekend. The Shrewsbury Folk Festival has become nothing less than a vital escape from the stresses of modern life and into a world that some may not know can still be found. Long may it continue.

We loved Shrewsbury 2008, best weekend of our lives, definitely coming again in 2009.

Julian P, Cagnes sur Mer, France

We had a great time at the festival. We spend most of the time in the two main marquees. The sound was very good and we were very happy with the seating. The people at the show were very friendly and we four Dutch people had a lot of fun.

Erik and Yoke Ruesink, Netherlands

We have just arrived home from the festival. I would just like to say on behalf of my husband, 2 daughters and one, soon to be, son-in-law a huge thank you for what was a fantastic diverse festival. We spoke to a lot of people at the festival who all agreed it was one of the best! It takes a great deal of organisation to make it look as effortless and laid back as it did.

Again thank you and see you next year - maybe with more additions to the family!

Annette F, DERBY

Outstanding festival - congratulations and many thanks. The site was spacious, the campsite so well organised that I intend to use it next year rather than stay on a commercial site away from the action, the programme was excellent and the whole event had a special atmosphere. I have been to 6 festivals this summer and this was by far the best.

Steve F, Ossett, West Yorkshire

A superb festival, probably the most I've enjoyed myself in over 20 years of festival going. I liked the variety in the programme and in choice of venues. I was very impressed by the organisation, stewarding and the wonderful loo cleaning service! The atmosphere at the Monday night party was tremendous; everyone was in such good spirits.
